Jose Morales has overcome numerous obstacles on his journey to success. Born in Mexico and brought to the United States at just 11 months old, Jose lived as an undocumented immigrant until he was 23 years old when Former President Barack Obama granted DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, to kids brought to the US. Despite facing numerous challenges as a result of his legal status, Jose refused to let his circumstances define him.

“I was unable to get a license, constantly getting cars impounded. I played a victim role throughout my early adult years until I changed my mindset and created my dream boxing academy,” Jose said.

With a strong work ethic and a positive mindset, Jose was able to overcome the odds and achieve his dreams. In 2015, at the age of 25, he purchased a failing boxing gym in the suburbs and transformed the gym into a thriving and successful enterprise after six years. It now boasts hundreds of five-star reviews and a welcoming and inclusive environment that attracts a diverse crowd.

“With many limitations due to my legal status, I was able to maintain a positive mindset and, with hard work, reached my dreams,” Jose shared.

In addition to creating lucrative career opportunities for others who share his passion for boxing, Jose has also shared his story of struggle and success on stage and through his podcast. His message is one of hope and determination, and he wants others to know that it does not matter where you come from or what you’re dealing with – what matters is what’s in your head and the actions you take to back it up.

“I wanted to be the first undocumented immigrant to reach success,” says Jose. “You never hear about people like me making a huge impact in the community and in a country that doesn’t even claim us. I wanted to change the trajectory of my life and give people faith that they can come here and change their lives too while also making a positive impact on this country.”
