Commodity trading has never moved faster. A supplier in one hemisphere can be verified, contracted, and ship product to a buyer on another continent within days, a pace that would have been unthinkable a generation ago. But for Jason Venturelli, founder of JSV Global Services, speed has never been the hard part of global business. Trust is.
A Trader’s Perspective on a Faster World
Since founding JSV Global Services in 2015, Venturelli has built a physical commodity trading operation spanning oil, natural gas, gold, and agricultural products, a business built on sourcing, verifying, and delivering real product across complex international supply chains. It’s an industry where digital tools have made finding a supplier easier than ever, but Venturelli argues that access was never really the bottleneck.
“Access has become easier,” Venturelli explains. “Finding the right partner is still where experience matters.”
That distinction, between having options and having the judgment to choose the right one, sits at the center of how he’s built JSV Global’s approach to energy, agriculture, and general commodities sourcing.
Relationships Over Transactions
Rather than treating each deal as a standalone transaction, Venturelli has built JSV Global around a longer-term view of client relationships, whether the business at hand involves energy sourcing, agricultural commodities, or general trade.
“When you understand someone’s business goals, you’re able to provide better solutions,” he says. “That’s how lasting partnerships are built.”
That philosophy shows up in the company’s approach to risk management as well. It treats a client’s exposure to currency shifts, shipping delays, or geopolitical disruption not as a one-time contract term, but as an ongoing part of the relationship JSV Global maintains with the businesses it serves.
Communication as a Competitive Advantage
International commodity trading routinely involves multiple time zones, regulatory regimes, and logistics providers, any one of which can introduce delays or friction. Venturelli points to communication, not just logistics infrastructure, as one of the most underrated tools for managing that complexity.
“Keeping clients informed throughout the process builds confidence,” he says. “People want to know what’s happening, especially when managing complex international transactions.”
For a company sourcing premium fuel products like JET A-1 and diesel EN590 from refineries worldwide, or moving sugar and coffee from producers across multiple continents, that kind of transparency isn’t a soft skill. It’s an operational necessity.
Staying Adaptable in a Market That Never Stands Still
Commodity markets are shaped by forces largely outside any single trader’s control: shifting regulations, transportation bottlenecks, and swings in global demand. Venturelli’s approach has been to treat adaptability as a core discipline rather than a reaction to crisis.
“The companies that continue learning and improving are often the ones that stay competitive,” he says.
A Reputation Built Deal by Deal
For Venturelli, leadership in commodity trading extends past the financial performance of any single transaction. He describes a business culture built on accountability and professionalism, one where a company’s reputation compounds over time, for better or worse.
“Your reputation follows every decision you make,” Venturelli says. “If people know they can count on you, opportunities naturally begin to grow.”
Looking Ahead
As global commerce grows more interconnected, Venturelli expects the fundamentals of his business to stay the same, even as the tools around it keep changing.
“Business has always been about people,” he says. “No matter how advanced technology becomes, trust, reliability, and professionalism will always matter.”
Nearly a decade into building JSV Global Services, that principle remains the throughline of Venturelli’s approach, a trading company built not just on moving commodities efficiently, but on the relationships that make each transaction possible in the first place.
